CELEBRATING MY GIFT FROM GOD: THE LOVE OF MY LIFE ,MY HUSBAND, MY FRIEND, OUR COMPASSIONATE PATRIACH DR MADUKA NWAKWESI (OMELORA OGBUNIKE)
I celebrate my gift from God, the love of my life, my husband, my friend, and our compassionate patriarch, Dr. Maduka Nwakwesi (Omelora Ogbunike).
My husband, Dr. Maduka Nwakwesi, is a tall, handsome man.
We danced blues that gave me butterflies in my tummy the very first night we met at a party. He caught my attention completely. As I left the party, I rushed back to the window and used my eye pencil to scribble my phone number for him and that was how our love story began.
On 20th August 1977, we got married. By God’s grace, 2027 will mark our 50th wedding anniversary. I will be releasing the full story of the amazing lives and marriage of Dr. Maduka and Dr. Ifeyinwa Nwakwesi next year, as we celebrate his 85th birthday and our golden wedding anniversary.
God blessed us with five amazing children, wonderful spouses, and thirteen adorable grandchildren.
The values that keep me loving, appreciating, and standing solidly with my husband are his compassionate, empathetic, and accommodating heart.
He is an encourager, a motivator, and an inspirer.
He emptied his account to help me start my business journey.
He believed deeply in the capacity of a woman to achieve.
He lives with inner contentment, happiness, peace, kindness, love, humility, and gratitude, and so all he brings out is positivity, warmth, love, and growth.
He is extremely intelligent and a fantastic conversationalist.
He is the first son in a family of ten men and eight women, of the late Chief Bernard Nwakwesi of Azu, Ogbunike, Anambra State.
He obtained a BA (Honours), Second Class Upper, in Politics and Economy from Queens university Kingston, Ontario and later earned his MA and PhD in Political Science from McGill University, Canada. He paved the way for six of his brothers to study in Canada.
He is truly a gift to his family as a first son, dutiful, responsible, and exemplary.
Beyond his formal certificates, he continually strives to improve himself.
He is deepening his spiritual life, cultivating a positive mindset and attitude, and intentionally improving his health, taking advice from me, drawing on my wealth of knowledge in chronic disease prevention and vibrant health.
He holds a relationship and marriage-building certificate in practice, as he is the best husband any woman could wish for.
He is a devoted father and a great role model. His children and their spouses adore him and deeply appreciate his role in their lives.
He loves his clan dearly and is constantly engaged in meetings concerning their wellbeing, including the annual celebration of elders aged 70 years and above every 31st of December. He makes the Umunna, Umumefor clan, and Azu Ogbunike community feel special, loved, and appreciated. Whenever we go home to the village, I happily “donate” him to his Umunna while I keep myself busy and enjoy myself.
We made a promise to God during a challenging season in our business lives, and God answered us. In gratitude, Dr. Maduka Nwakwesi and his family built St. Thomas Anglican Church, Azu Ogbunike. Every 1st of January, we hold a Thanksgiving Service in the church to thank God for His numerous blessings upon our lives.
The leadership qualities of a first son influence the quality of a family.
Omelora’s role in building the successful late Chief Bernard Nwakwesi family and the Dr. Maduka Nwakwesi family is truly exemplary. I thank God for the grace to work with him in building a loving, united family founded on genuine love, harmony, unity, and progress.
Omelora, thank you for loving me with my strengths and weaknesses.
Thank you for believing in my capacity and competence to be an asset to our family.
Thank you for encouraging me to pursue my passion and purpose.
Thank you for being the wind beneath my wings.
May our responsible and family-oriented children ,their spouses and our adorable grandchildren continue to be a source of joy and happiness for both of us.
